Naming ceremonies

A picture of lollipopsThis type of ceremony is a special opportunity that allows you to -

  • celebrate the birth of a child
  • to welcome adopted or stepchildren into the family

Although traditional christenings or baptisms are still popular, there is an increasing need for an alternative, non-religious ceremony.

A naming ceremony is unique to you and your family. You will have the chance to include personal reflections and references around the meaning of your child’s name and why the name was chosen.

a picture of 3 children under a treeThe ceremony is broken down into sections and the different sections give you the chance to create something personal and special to you. We provide a selection of suggested words to use in your ceremony and script the ceremony from the selections you make. You also have the freedom to be creative and personalise the ceremony by writing elements yourself. The ceremony can be as long or short as you make it.

Every ceremony is different, and we can help you create something unique for your family to remember and treasure as you grow together as a family.

We offer ceremonies in our room at The Guildhall and also at all of our approved premises. If you would like to use a different venue, for example a village hall or your own home, then this is also possible. This request would need to be discussed beforehand and be visited by a member of our team to ensure that the venue is suitable.
